Acupuncture, the Chinese method of treatment using golden needles, has been known for over 5,000 years. However, not everyone knows that there is another method – acupressure. In this article, we will tell you How to Massage Your Pressure Points.

What is Acupressure

Acupressure is a further development of acupuncture. It uses the same points and meridians to which acupuncture needles are inserted, but acupressure rejects the use of metal in treatment, which makes the technique softer and safer without compromising its effectiveness. Instead of metal needles, the thumb and index finger of the hand are used to the same effect.

Pressing with the fingers on the right points relieves many ailments and disorders. Acupressure not only relieves pain, but also shortens the time of illness, eliminates disturbances in functional activity of organs, eliminates organic consequences of neurosis: anxiety, restlessness, apprehension. Every person who knows the most important points on the body and the therapeutic indications, by following easy to remember acupressure rules, can help themselves!

Acupressure relieves pain and effectively treats those diseases that are caused by disorders of the nervous system, which is every other disease these days. But above all, acupressure is a reliable, safe and effective method of dealing with pain – and that without any side effects. This method is especially effective when successfully selected and, even more pleasant, the medium of influence.

How to treat acupressure points?

Doctors of Traditional Chinese Medicine distinguish three degrees of influence on the healing points:

  • For acute pain and initial treatment, a light circular massage of the point, which is performed with the tip of the index finger of the hand, is indicated. The duration of massage is from one to five minutes.
  • In chronic diseases, depending on the overall condition of the patient, it is best and most reliable to use a medium strength acupressure point massage. Multiple massages during the day are recommended, the duration of acupressure is up to 30-40 seconds.
  • Strong acupressure is done mainly with the thumb of the hand, but other options are also possible.

When the desired active point is found on the body, the tip of the index finger or thumb touches the skin, then begin to make circular movements with the finger, shifting the skin relative to the bone or muscle tissue in a rhythm of two revolutions per second. When doing so, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the finger always remains on the necessary point of the body.

How to do acupressure correctly?

  • Sit or lie on your back.
  • Take your eyes off everything for a while and make sure that there are no external stimuli.
  • Place the tip of your index finger on the desired point on the body.
  • Lightly press on the skin and at the same time begin to make circular movements with your finger, making sure that the finger does not move away from the given point of the body.
  • Duration of acupressure – from half a minute to five minutes. The action always comes quickly and is felt for a long time.
